Medically Proven Weight Loss Pills

Obesity may affect more than 4 billion people in the next 12 years. According to World Obesity Atlas 2023, more than half the global population will be obese or overweight by 2035. In response, many people are turning to supplements in the hopes of achieving weight loss. While there are many supplements on the market that claim to aid in weight loss, it is important to understand the potential benefits and risks of these products before using them. To offer more insight, we have discussed some top medically proven weight loss pills, including green tea extract, conjugated linoleic acid, glucomannan, probiotics, chromium, and hoodia.

Green tea extract:

One of the medically proven weight loss pills is Green tea extract. It comes from the leaves of the green tea plant. It has higher levels of catechins and caffeine. These compounds have health benefits like weight loss, improved brain function, and reduced risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease and certain types of cancer. The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition reports that it has thermogenic properties and promotes fat oxidation. The extract works through sympathetic activation of thermogenesis, fat oxidation, or both.

Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA):

Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) refers to fat mostly found in beef and dairy products. Studies suggest that CLA reduces abdominal fat and improves body composition by increasing lean body mass. The fatty acid works by inhibiting the activity of an enzyme responsible for storing fat in the body. It also may increase the breakdown of fat in fat cells, leading to increased fat burning. You should take caution when taking CLA because high doses may cause digestive issues or insulin resistance.

Glucomannan:

Glucomannan is a type of soluble fiber that is derived from the root of the konjac plant. It is incorporated into weight loss supplements for its ability to reduce appetite and enhance feelings of fullness. When consumed, glucomannan forms a gel-like substance in the digestive system. This slows down the absorption of nutrients and delays gastric emptying. Obesity Medicine suggests that taking glucomannan supplements can lead to modest weight loss in overweight and obese individuals. However, it is important to note that glucomannan should be taken with plenty of water to prevent choking or blockages in the digestive system.

Probiotics:

Probiotics are live microorganisms that are beneficial to human health when consumed in adequate amounts. They are commonly found in fermented foods like yogurt, kefir, and sauerkraut, as well as in dietary supplements. They restore the balance of beneficial bacteria in the gut. The balance is disrupted by factors like a poor diet, stress, or the use of antibiotics. A healthy gut microbiome improves digestion, enhances immune function, and promotes weight loss.

Research indicates that probiotic reduces the absorption of dietary fat and increase feelings of fullness. However, the evidence is not yet conclusive, and the specific strains and dosages of probiotics needed for weight loss are still being studied.

Chromium:

Chromium is a trace mineral that helps in the regulation of blood sugar levels. It is found in a variety of foods, including broccoli, potatoes, and whole grains, and is also available in dietary supplements. It supports the action of insulin which improve glucose metabolism and reduce cravings for carbohydrates.

Hoodia

Hoodia is a plant native to Africa that has been marketed as a natural appetite suppressant and weight loss aid. It contains a compound called P57. The compound affects the hypothalamus resulting in appetite-reducing effects. Animal-based research has proven that hoodia suppresses appetite. Unfortunately, there is insufficient evidence to support the use of hoodia for weight loss in humans.

While some of the supplements discussed in this response have shown promising potential for aiding in weight loss, it is important to remember that no supplement is a magic solution for achieving a healthy weight. A balanced diet and regular exercise remain the most effective and sustainable ways to achieve and maintain a healthy weight. Additionally, it is always important to speak with a healthcare provider before taking any supplements to ensure they are safe and appropriate for your individual needs and health status.
